You can connect a Mac Mini up with your current monitor and you're good to go. I personally would go with a Mac Mini, unless you routinely use laptops anyway.
#Kindle for mac 10.6.8 32 bit#
I used to have a 32 bit Intel Mac (which ran Snow Leopard) for my studio, but I felt like it was circling the drain towards obsolescence, because more apps were abandoning 32 bit. Just make sure you get a Core 2 Duo or better, so it'll be 64 bit. These older Intel Macs are so affordable on eBay, and with a non-DOA guarantee (make sure your seller offers that) and a SquareTrade warranty, you really shouldn't have much to worry about. I wouldn't suggest you get a model as old as my studio Mac, but you needn't make a big investment either. I've done some writing with Scrivener on the cheapo studio Mac, and it works just fine! I have a newer (2012) Mac Mini model at home, but the older Mac Mini is at my studio. Plus, eBay allows you to buy a Square Trade Warranty. Many of these eBay Macs come with a money-back guarantee, so you can protect yourself from a DOA computer. I have this model of Mac Mini: It runs Mountain Lion (but no higher than that). Not nearly all the features of Photoshop, but what it has, it makes so much easier. Oh, I also picked up Pixelmator, an almost-Photoshop app that makes short work of cover creation. You won't regret it-Scrivener is just.wow. The commericals are right: it just works (fast!). It has a lot of quirks that seem ridiculous at first. If you get a Mac, give yourself a few days/weeks to get used to it.

Start up and shut down times are measured in seconds (30) not minutes (3- a la Windows 8.1 (Windows 10 brought M$ very close to my Mac, but I won't go back). It has only 4gig RAM and it runs Scrivener just as fast as my Windows machines. The SSD was another $50 or so, may have been $70, can't remember now, but I got 128g and its got more than enough space for the OS (OS X Yeosemite) and apps. Of course I needed a monitor and keyboard (the standard Mac keyboard, though spendy, is hands down the best I've ever used!), by hitting a $50 off sale on Amazon, I still got my whole setup for about $650 brand new. I bought the base model (gasp) mini and added an external SSD drive for the OS and apps (really not hard to do even though the whole file structure seemed alien to me). Adding graphics to chapter titles? Piece of cake.

Paperback took days to weeks before-now I can be ready to send a PDF to CreateSpace in under 5 minutes. The Scrivener version for Mac is simply incredible! I saved my presets and with the click of the mouse can be ready to publish an ebook. Since I converted to the dark side, I have opened up a whole world of productivity.

It was a long slog and for paperback, a nightmare. My workflow consisted of writing in Scrivener for Windows and flipping to Word to publish. I was tired of workarounds and tutorials with the "Mac only" disclaimer. I bought a Mac Mini in June just for Scrivener. Click to expand.TL-DR: Can't recommend Mac enough and if you only need it for Scrivener or a few other things, nothing insane like gaming or video editing, 4gig RAM 1.4gHz base models are plenty enough.
